Caring For Your Wooden Floor

Here are a few tips on how to care for your new wooden floor:

Firstly remember wood floors can be easily scratched when heavy objects are dragged across them. For this reason, lift furniture when moving it instead of dragging it across the floor. We also recommend installing felt tips on furniture legs or placing the furniture on top of an area of rug; that way, you minimize the potential for scratching that is there when sofas and chairs are slightly moved about in the ordinary course of sitting down and getting up.

High-heels are also likely to cause scratches on wood floors, so they should not be worn indoors. In the event that they have to be worn, care should be taken to make sure the heels are not overly sharp, for sharp heels are more likely to dent and scratch hardwood flooring.

Secondly, be aware of the damage that sunlight can cause to wooden floors. Excessive sunlight can cause fading and discolouring, so care should be taken to make sure that no area of the wood floor receives too much direct sunlight. Installing Curtains and blinds now, can save you a lot of money in the future.

Thirdly,  remember water is one of woods worst enemies. Wood can warp if it gets over wet, so special care should be taken to ensure any spills are mopped up immediately. When cleaning with a mop use only a slightly damp mop and wipe the floor dry. Keep mopping to a minimum. Regular sweeping with a soft bristle brush or vacuum with a suction hoover, to keep dirt that can cause scratching from building up, will keep your floor looking great for years.
